After our single malt whiskey has matured in American white oak barrels for about half a decade, it is transferred to barrels that previously held high-quality rum from the Caribbean. Caribbean rums are typically strong and spicy in taste. Before bottling, they mature for several months or years in wooden barrels, which absorb the complex aromas of the rum as they mature. We then use particularly high-quality rum casks to finish the SLYRS single malt whiskey. Including some barrels in which Rhum Agricole (made from sugar cane juice - not molasses as usual) was previously stored. When finished, the whiskey absorbs the typical rum flavors and becomes one of our masterpieces.
