Fortis was aged in 100% American oak barrels to achieve a full, rich flavor and enhance the whiskey's toasted oak and vanilla flavors.

Fortis also has juicy red wine characteristics, thanks to the casks, mostly from Barossa Valley wineries, that once matured powerful Shiraz and Cabernets. Some barrels are charred to add complexity, most are fresh, giving Fortis the intense red wine flavors that have penetrated the barrel staves. This stronger version is not chill-filtered in order to be as close as possible to the whiskey that comes out of the barrel.

A rich, full-bodied taste balanced with the approachable, velvety smoothness that Starward whiskeys are known for. Expect notes of Madagascar vanilla beans and toasted oak upfront. The palate features chocolate ganache, cinnamon, quince and muscadelle raisins with a long-lasting, spicy finish.
